VAN MORRISON
HIS BAND AND THE STREET CHOIR

Original 1970 album liner notes

There is so much light here – his life force pulling us all together, letting himself finally touch; the gentle eyes of the people Van and I love so much smiling – and, incredibly, I have seen Van open those parts of his secret self – his essential core of aloneness I had always feared could never be broken into – and say…yes, come in here.  Know me.

This new collection of songs and music is a milestone in his life.  It seems so far away from the former reality of a confession of the nature of T.B. Sheets.  All that really did happen to Van, make no mistake.  Only there wasn’t anyone else there with him.  To lay that bare once and for all – he was sickeningly alone, afraid and ranting to be neither.

This is the album that you must sing with, dance to, you must find a place for the songs somewhere in your life.  They belong to you now, dear listener, especially for you.

Let your body go –

– Janet Planet
