Who can explain it? This girl from Brooklyn, unannounced, on-the-scene ... "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?", "Natural Woman," "Up On The Roof," "I'll Do My Crying In The Rain" ... a tunesmith, a Brill Building pro, inventing popular music, hammering out songs for any occasion, tailor-made sequels ... Very accessible, very personal statements, built from the ground up with a simple, elegant architecture.

Kootch introduced us in 1969, just around the time she was starting to perform her songs herself (people in the biz had treasured her demos for years). We recorded together, toured together, shared a band and hunt out. She gave me my only #1 single. Those were remarkable days in Laurel Canyon. Joni, Jackson, CSNY, The Eagles, Carole King ... exceptional was commonplace. The record industry was a labor of love in the service of music. It was a hoot. We laughed, we cried, we lived, we died. Let's listen.

James Taylor
