This album is a first! Because it features Murry Wilson – songwriter!
Until this time, the public has known Murry Wilson only as the father and initial personal manager-recording director of the world famous Beach Boys. The man who rocketed them into a phenomenal career.
Now, it’s Murry Wilson’s turn! You will hear a side of Murry that only his family and close friends are aware of – the songwriter with a flair for melodic structure! And you’ll also hear a fantastic mixture of sounds uncommon to most recordings!
Music has always played an important part in Murry Wilson’s life.
“I’ve been writing songs for as long as I can remember,” states Murry. “My family has always had a great appreciation for the value of music. Many an evening, my wife, Audree, and I used to gather our sons and friends to sing around the piano. Those were pretty lean days for us so we used to entertain ourselves with music.”
Murry’s first songwriting venture occurred when he entered a radio contest emanating from New York.
“If I ever had an incentive, that was it!” exclaims Murry. “I’ve been writing ever since.”
And, in keeping with Murry Wilson’s philosophy that new talent should be heard, several of the songs included in this album are those of new songwriters: “The Happy Song” and “The Plumber’s Song” by Eck Kynor, a 40-year old plumber, who’s been writing only a short period of time; “Islands In The Sky” by 20-year old Rick Henn; “Broken Heart” by lifetime friend, George Kizanis.
Also, “Just ‘Round The River Bend,” written by the well-known songwriter-arranger, Don Ralke; “Italia” by Beach Boy, Al Jardine (written before the group achieved success); “Betty’s Waltz” which Murry collaborated on with his wife, Audree, and is a waltz with a two-counter harmony melody composed to sound like one melody; and “Warmth Of The Sun’ by Murry’s eldest son, Brian. This is Murry’s favorite of all his son’s compositions.
“The music business has been good to the entire Wilson family,” adds Murry. “And, this album, which has been mixed as emotionally as possible, retaining color, shading and warmth, is humbly offered to the public.”
