“So Brad, what kind of music do you like?” My Grandpa asked.
I was four. I really didn’t know so I said, “What kind of music do you like?” “I like country,” he said, “Well then, that’s what I like.”
____________________________________________________

Over the course of my life I’ve really grown to appreciate all that is country music. You might hear it dancin’ across the sawdust floor of your local honky tonk or ringin’ the rafters of a small country church in the middle of nowhere. It can shoot from the speakers of an over-driven electric guitar amp or float off the bow of a bluegrass fiddle. It can make you laugh, cry or both. When you think about it, it’s kinda like a musical photograph of the world we live in. pictures of real life and real people. I’d like to thank some of those real people from my life who have helped me to develop my own set of pictures here on this record.

First of all, Clarence “Hank” Goddard. I’d like to say my Grandfather was right – you are the best guitar player in the world. Thank you for being patient with a little boy whose life was shaped by your example. Gene Elliott and Tom Beresford, for gigs from Connecticut to Mound View. I owe you all everything.

Glen Dale United Methodist Church, Glen Dale School, Linsly, John Marshall, WLSC, Belmont, all my teachers: Bob Mulloy – you are missed. Joe and Dorothy Funk, Biggie Byard, Arch Moore, The Gouldberry’s, Valerie Bolin and Family; WWVA, Tom Miller Jamboree USA and the whole crew – Ron, Roger, Donny, Jamie, Larry, Chad, John, Charlie, Tim, Don, Jim2, B.C., B.G.; I learned how to do this by watching all of you. Listen closely to this album and you will hear yourselves.

Brent Long, Jeff Ovies, Hiram Lodge, Joe Blair, Brad Thompson for banjos and Minnows. My family – The Takach’s, Paisley’s, Douglas; Mamaw for years of bacon and eggs. Nana. My accountant and guitar tech, Buzz Rogers; Joe Glaser; Kent Everrett, Stubbs Davis, The McQuages for the Sea Gayle, The Lovelaces.

ASCAP – John Briggs, Pat Rolph; Connie; also Pat Finch; Celia Froelig; Tom Long; EMI – Gary D, Jason, Glen, Greg, and everyone; Susan Sherrill; Kirke Martin, Jim McGuire and Crew, Jim Shea and Crew, Claudia Fowler, Steve Wariner, Charley Pride, all my co-writers – Tim, Robert, Tommy Polk; The Band Guys – Mitch, James, Bernie, Justin, Glen, Mike, Earl and Wes; You really put your heart into this project, God bless your talent; Brian; David Willis for always being a good sport even when it’s 2AM and I’m still messing with the guitar tone. Our new friendship has already made doing this album a success for me; Richard Barrow – I guess I could say the same to you. You have the patience of Job; Dr. Mike Glen, Rev. Rob Wilson and Rev. John Lepp – Keep it short this week guys – it’s supposed to be 85 degrees. Rob Beckham at Wm. Coach Watson for keeping the dream alive. You never doubted me for a second, I treasure your friendship.

The entire Arista/Nashville staff: Tim DuBois, Mike Duncan, Fletcher Foster, Jim Scherer, Bobby Kraig, Maude Gilman-Clapham, Rick Shedd, Jan Baines, Teddi Bonadies, Allen Brown, Dottie Chamberlain, Sheryl Chancellor, Robby Clinton, John Conlon, Scott Crosby, Susie Cox, Marty Craighead, Cheri Cranford, Nathan Cruise, Dave Dame, Vanessa Davis, Sharon Delmar, Jeri Detweiler, Kerri Edwards, Linda Engbrenghof, Kevin Erickson, Matt Galvin, Frank Hamlin, Lori Hartigan, Susan Heard, Dan Herrington, Cheryl Horkoff, S. Wade Hunt, Kelly Keiber, Page Kelley, Tammy Kohlburn, Jay Krenson, David Macias, Deb Markland, Rusty Martin, Mindi McCormick, Missy McKeand, Susannah Mclendon, Jennifer McVey, Chris Melancon, Clay Neuman, Denis Nichols, Candace Nuyens, Mike Owens, David Pohlable, Jackie Proffit, Anita Rabasca, Scott Rattray, Rob Reid, Dawn Richardson, Sherod Robertson, Scott Robinson, Ken Rush, Cary Ryan, Traci Samczyk, Janell Sanders, Michael Sistad, Kim Wiggins, Steve Williams.

My manager, Jimmy Gilmer: This has been a character building experience for the both of us. I really look up to you as a person (and a rock-n-roll star). Here’s to many years of wake-up calls, learning experiences and friendship.

In The Garden is for Cathy Blair.

To my Mom and Dad. You couldn’t have been better parents. I can’t repay all you’ve done for me, except by trying to be at least half the parents you didn’t have to be. Someday.
Finally, thanks be to God, for the gift of music and countless blessings. I hope only to do you will and be the person you want me to be. I can’t do this without you. Thanks for my life.

I dedicate this album to the memory of Warren L. Jarvis, my Grandfather. Thanks for that first guitar Papaw. Can you pick up country radio in heaven? I bet so. Hope you like what I have done.
